Why can't our political process be like this?
Pandemonium broke out in Taiwanese parliament when deputies attacked a woman colleague for snatching and trying to eat a proposal on opening direct transport links with China in a bid to stop a vote on the issue.
Lawmakers of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party charged towards the podium and protested noisily to prevent the review of an opposition proposal seeking an end to decades-old curbs on direct air and shipping links with China.
Amid the chaos, DPP deputy Wang Shu-hui snatched the written proposal from an opposition legislator and shoved it into her mouth, television news footage showed.

I've been watching footage of melees in the Taiwanese parliament for years. I'm so jealous.
I want to see Barbara Boxer vainly trying to obstruct some legislation by devouring the pages, and for her Republican colleagues to pound the crap out of her.
I want to see people rush up and drag Teddy Kennedy away from the podium, hitting him in the legs with socks full of nickles.
Arlen Specter would be getting wedgies everytime he started getting wobbly.
Is that so wrong? The element of physical danger would attract better people- courageous people missing a lot of teeth- to the House and Senate. And spineless bastards like John Kerry wouldn't want the job anymore.

Caldwell also said experts told him it is not unheard of for people to survive a blast of that magnitude.“There are cases when people, in fact, can survive even an attack like that on a building structure. Obviously, the other five in the building did not, but he did for some reason,” Caldwell said.

Off His Meds?

The other day, the leader of the major American opposition party called the war in Iraq "unwinnable", compared the supposed scandal over intelligence -- the same intel that Congress had seen since the Clinton administration -- with Watergate, and issued a demand that Bush immediately withdraw half of the forces in Iraq -- and yet the major newspapers could not be bothered to write their own articles about the story or include it in their print versions today. Neither the NY Times nor the Washington Post gave any kind of comprehensive report to Howard Dean's shrieking for retreat and surrender, nor to his ridiculous notion of how to fight against Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, as told to WOAI radio in San Antonio:

Saying the "idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong," Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean predicted today that the Democratic Party will come together on a proposal to withdraw National Guard and Reserve troops immediately, and all US forces within two years. ...
"I think we need a strategic redeployment over a period of two years," Dean said. "Bring the 80,000 National Guard and Reserve troops home immediately. They don't belong in a conflict like this anyway. We ought to have a redeployment to Afghanistan of 20,000 troops, we don't have enough troops to do the job there and its a place where we are welcome. And we need a force in the Middle East, not in Iraq but in a friendly neighboring country to fight (terrorist leader Musab) Zarqawi, who came to Iraq after this invasion. We've got to get the target off the backs of American troops.

Dean didn't specify which country the US forces would deploy to, but he said he would like to see the entire process completed within two years. He said the Democrat proposal is not a 'withdrawal,' but rather a 'strategic redeployment' of U.S. forces.
First, from these comments Dean makes clear that he has no idea of the difference between a strategic redeployment and running away. The former refers to a rearrangement of tactical positioning, including tactical retreat in some cases, in order to regain the initiative for a bigger push later on. "Redeployment" by disengagement with no intent to return to the battlefield has another term in military parlance: full retreat. Dean also exposes his utter lack of comprehension of the situation in Southwest Asia when he suggests that we can easily find a "friendly nation" to host 80,000 American troops while our country lacks the political will to allow them to fight. Exactly who will want to board Americans when the terrorists come after us in our new bivouac? And would Dean and the Democrats allow them to fight then, or will they claim that we're still the root cause of the terrorist activity and give up the Middle East altogether?
Dr. Dean, which country would sign up for that duty? The only nations large enough to host 80,000 American troops would be Turkey (which won't do it), Kuwait (which is on the wrong side of Iraq to easily address the issues in the west and center of Iraq), and Saudi Arabia (which is where we supposedly offended the Islamofascists initially).
Most laughably, the leader of the Democrats and the man responsible for coordinating their electoral efforts then claims that by pulling American troops out of Iraq and outside of the range of Zarqawi, we'll be better prepared to fight the insurgents -- even though we will no longer have assets on the ground gathering intelligence and conducting the kinds of patrols necessary to find and engage the enemy on our terms. Instead, Zarqawi will simply start taking over towns like Falluja and Ramadi all over again and operating in the open to spread his lunatic Islamofascism across central Iraq.
The embarassment of Dean's military analysis would make clear that the Democrats have no business conducting foreign affairs and national security for the US in this age of Islamofascist terrorism. That's why the newspapers buried Dean's comments on their web sites. They had plenty of time to write their own copy, or at least to include the AP story in their print edition. However, the NYT and the Washington Post obviously hope that Dean's comments get quickly forgotten. (The Los Angeles Times doesn't bother to mention it at all, despite the longer lead time for their newspaper.)
Perhaps this comes as no surprise -- it doesn't surprise me -- but the national media has long since decided it needs to downplay Dean if the Democrats are to survive 2006. The Democrats still haven't gotten the same message

Has Katie Couric watched too many westerns? You know, the kind where the sheriff shoots the gun out of the bad guy's hand?
You'd think so, given the repeated questions she posed to a former air marshal in the wake of yesterday's shooting of a frantic passenger claiming to have a bomb aboard an American Airlines flight .
Katie's guest was former air marshal Tony Kuklinski, who stated that "by all accounts I've seen, what [the air marshals] did was necessary."
Katie wasn't so sure:
"Do they always shoot to kill, Tony? In other words, I guess the average person hearing this [on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Katie?] might think: isn't there a way where they could have shot this person and not killed him? Wounded him or incapacitated him in some way without killing him?"
As Kuklinksi patiently and professionally explained:
"law enforcement officials aren't trained to shoot to kill; they're trained to shoot to prevent the action from taking place. We're not trained to precision-shoot in the knee or in the arm or in the finger to prevent something from taking place. Your accuracy goes down, the potential for a stray bullet or a missed shot hitting a bystander goes up tremendously."
That wasn't enough to satisfy Katie:
"I know that last July, London police shot and killed a Brazilian electrician because they'd mistaken him for a terror suspect. It raises the question: should there be further training? Do you think that air marshals should be taught to shoot at a specific location on a body?"
One sensed Kuklinski's rising frustration. Yet he remained patient and polite, and gave what is really the key answer:
"Federal air marshals have one of the best training programs anywhere in the country. [Precision shooting creates] too much potential for secondary casualties. There's no time to sit there and take precision aim. [Attempting a more precise shot] - to shoot him in the shoulder, shoot him in the leg - it may not prevent the crime from being committed.
It makes you wonder: what questions do you think Katie might pose if an air marshal, following her recommendations, shot a terrorist in the hand, who as a result was capable of detonating his bomb that in turn brought down a jumbo jet filled with passengers?

Now that's a Quagmire!

I’ve been looking at the news and I have to say that the casualties are really starting to get to me. Victim after hapless victim has fallen to this administration in a conflict that makes no sense. So we have to ask the very important question:
Has the Democrats' War on President Bush turned into a quagmire?
Maybe it’s time for them to look at reality of the Senate and, if appropriate, start formulating a comprehensive plan for withdrawal.
Since 2000, how many Democratic Senators have been lost to the RNC re-election war machine? Has it been worth it? How many reporters? Mr. Rather? Ms. Mapes? I don’t have the Fake But Accurate data on hand, but I’m sure it’s a lot.
Sure, there has been a glimmer of light. A two year investigation about outing a CIA operative turned into an indictment. Because of it, Scooter Libby, Dick Cheney’s Chief of staff, was forced to resign. This set back the Vice President’s office for two hours until somebody found the Staples Office Supply Catalog. Then all was well. But shouldn’t a two year investigation yield a conviction into the actual real charges?
Sure, the Democrats can try to come up with false numbers of hope:like MOST of the Democratic voters were dead AFTER they voted, but the reality looks them in their grim, non-photoshopped faces. The elections numbers tell the story. The Dems are losing this war and it’s only getting worse. They are the Ding Dongs on the Michael Moore Plate Of Life.
Can they beat these brave RNC insurgents? Republicans are people who fight with unconventional tactics. They’ll remember Democrat’s speeches and quote them when it contradicts the current, and opposite Democrat position. They’ll ignore polls and do what they believe. And most importantly, they’ll never be convinced that either Communism or Barbra Streisand can be a force for good.
The RNC has a lot of religious zealots. People who won’t think twice about storming a clinic and carrying out the unthinkable – letting an innocent fetus suffer a cruel and torturous life – never to die again – except when they’re old and gray maybe. How do you fight that enemy? Without using bullets of course because gun control is very important. The answer is : they can’t.
Sure the Democrats have their own suicide bombers like Howard Dean – but what they really need is leadership. Hillary Clinton (Motto: I don’t have an official opinion yet – but I’m sure I’ll denounce it.) is a good candidate but she’s trying too hard to look Republican.
Harry Reid? This is a war of subtlety and ideas. He has neither. The Clintons do their dirty deeds in the dark. Not Harry. If Harry had Monica Lewinsky, he would have had her right there at the podium, with a big giant Tip Jar front and center for all his Democratic supporters. Even when he calls a private, closed session, he’s determined to tell the whole world about it.
Let's face it. The Dems battle with George Bush has turned into another Vietnam. It’s time to give them our support by helping them go home.

Every so often in our nation's history we adopt a policy of strict isolationism due to our fear and ignorance.
It is once again time for such fear and ignorance.
It's time to admit the obvious: the rest of the world hates us. So, let's hate them back. Really, what's worth all this grief we get from dealing with them? Apparently they all enjoy fascism and murder and what not, so leave them to it. The Middle East was just fine having war with itself before we came along (not to mention the meddlesome joooos). Europe thinks it's so smart, so let's hand over the keys to the rest of the world to them and declare "If it ain't happening in American borders, we don't care anymore."
Let's pull American troops out of everywhere and station them on our own borders. Let's sever all outside communications, no longer take calls from foreign diplomats, and outlaw international flights. "American" will be the only acknowledged form of human communication, and all other attempts at linguistics will be banned. Maps of the world will only show America with "There be dragons here" the only thing said about whatever is outside our borders. Hawaii will be abandoned as it's just too big an outlier to coincide with our new strict isolationism.
I know; you think you see problems with this. "Don't we need stuff from other countries?" you probably ask. Bah! Sure, it's nice to get cheap plastic trinkets from China, but I bet Mexico can make stuff for us cheap and they're right next door (hell, half its citizens are already in this country and waiting for work outside Home Depot). As for oil, if we ever need any we can just invade our neighbor Canada. That would be a nice war that families could participate in on the weekend vacations. And, since at any time many Americans are in Canada as tourists, all we have to do is make sure they're armed and then we're occupying the place without a change in status quo. See, all our needs can be met with only dealing with the two countries contiguous to the U.S.A.
But what if terrorists attack again because their pedophile prophet told them too? Then we start nuking places at random (cruise missiles are preferred as we can use those from the comfort of our own home). Our new policy will be that we no longer distinguish between foreigners, so, if we are attacked, it is the fault of all non-Americans. Other countries will soon learn that America is extremely violent when perturbed, and soon they'll be tripping over each other to make sure that no one ever bothers us.
Space exploration can continue, but we must make it clear that we own space. All astronauts should have knives to stab anyone they see in space who isn't an American. All countries will know that, if you go into space, America will cut you.
It's a complex world, and it is time to simplify things. And, if you have a better plan for world peace than not caring about the rest of the world, then I'd like to hear it.

WTF is up with that?

What is it with leftists who leave the country and immediately start to encourage anti-American sentiment abroad? This time it's Al Gore, who talked to reporters in Sweden. The news headlines are about Gore vowing that he isn't running for President, but here's the rest of what he said:
When asked how the United States would have been different if he had become president, though, he had harsh criticism for Bush's policies.

"We would not have invaded a country that didn't attack us," he said, referring to Iraq. "We would not have taken money from the working families and given it to the most wealthy families."
"We would not be trying to control and intimidate the news media. We would not be routinely torturing people," Gore said. "We would be a different country.

"Routinely torturing people"--is that enemy propaganda, or the official position of the Democratic Party? Is there still a difference? If we're routinely torturing people, then why do those who get caught go to jail? And don't Gore and other liberals who travel abroad realize how much they are damaging the United States by recycling this nonsense?
For the rest, it's the usual parallel universe of the Democratic Party. The administration is trying to "control and intimidate the news media." Sure, we've all seen how intimidated the media are. That's why they never say anything critical of the administration. It would be more accurate to say that the media have tried to control and intimidate the Bush administration.
And I like the one about "taking money from working families and giving it to the most wealthy families." Sure, I remember the surtax Congress imposed to support the rich. Just once, I'd like to see a reporter ask Gore or some other left winger what the hell he's talking about when he makes that kind of statement. (You'd think the press would do it, too, since they're so intimidated by President Bush.)
Actually, though, Al Gore is one of the few rich Americans who really is supported by taxes paid by working families, since he receives a federal pension for his service in the Senate and as Vice-President. If he really means what he says, all he has to do is refund his pension to the federal treasury. What do you think the chances are he's doing that?

What would it take?

I’m not what you’d really call a ‘moderate’, but for the pure intellectual exercise, what would it take to make me vote for a Democrat in ‘08?
It would have to be a candidate like Zell Miller or Bill Richardson, who then does one or more of the following:

* Announces an official policy of supporting regime change by any and all means in Syria, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, France, and the Los Angeles Times.

* Runs on a campaign slogan of, “Get a fucking job, hippies!”

* Conducts a lengthy investigation of all allegations of prisoner abuse and disrespect of Islam at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, which then culminates in a finding of “Frankly, who gives a shit?”

* Promises to personally serve eviction notice to current occupants of UN Building, said eviction to be enforced by carpet bombing.

* Puts shotgun barrel in mouth of Palestine Authority representative, saying, “You’ve explained your position to me, Achmed, now explain it to Mr. Winchester!”

* Opens speech to the National Organization for Women with a scowl and the line, “Why the hell isn’t my dinner ready?”

* In all official diplomatic statements, consistently refers to current Chinese leadership as ‘them Red bastards’.

George Clooney decided to make a movie to attack television news and correct the "misperceptions" now circulating about Senator Joe McCarthy. Either the UK Telegraph or George Clooney's movie has completely lost all touch with reality, and succumbed to incoherent leftist mythology.

Clooney's film chronicles the 1950s conflict between the broadcaster Edward R Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy, the chairman of the House un-American Activities Committee, whose witch-hunt for communsympathizerssers split the nation.

Yep. I guess they called him Senator McCarthy because he chaired a House committee. Then again, maybe he was a Tory Minister of Parliament, since they're equally famous for chairing House committees. *cough*
I just can't wait to see how Clooney portrays those poor, blacklisted Hollywood folks, sitting on the stand, sweating bullets, getting grilled by McCarthy, a Senator who quite amazingly never once held a hearing about anyone in Hollywood, much less a hearing in the House.

The Clinton Legacy?

A classified Pentagon operation called “Able Danger” identified Mohammed Atta as a threat long before September 11, 2001, but was apparently so hobbled by the Clinton administration’s restrictions on intelligence sharing that their information was never forwarded to the FBI:

According to Weldon, Able Danger identified Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Khalid al-Mihdar and Nawaf al-Hazmi as members of a cell the unit code-named “Brooklyn” because of some loose connections to New York City.
Weldon said that in September 2000, Able Danger recommended on three separate occasions that its information on the hijackers be given to the FBI “so they could bring that cell in and take out the terrorists.” However, Weldon said Pentagon lawyers rejected the recommendation because they said Atta and the others were in the country legally, so information on them could not be shared with law enforcement.
“Lawyers within the administration — and we’re talking about the Clinton administration, not the Bush administration ... said ‘you can’t do it,’” and put post-its over Atta’s face, Weldon said. “They said they were concerned about the political fallout that occurred after Waco ... and the Branch Davidians.”
But Able Danger was largely using open-source information that was available on the Internet and other public mediums, Weldon said, adding that there was no law prohibiting such information from being passed on to law enforcement.

Since it's that time of year again, the time of year when leftists and "peace activists" everywhere are tripping over themselves to apologize to Japan for us having dared to win a war that was forced upon us, and forced upon us without formal declaration too, I feel that I should offer my sentiments on the subject as well:

If you want apologies go ask Tojo's ghost, because he's the demented, warmongering son-of-a-syphilitic-pig who brought those two mushroom clouds down upon your heads, and he owes you one if you ask me.
But we Americans don't.
None of the citizens of Hiroshima and Nagasaki would've died in that way if your sick, perverted, feudal warlord leaders hadn't picked a fight with the biggest, baddest son of a gun in the Valley.
The only ones needing to apologize here are them.
Tell them to apologize to the citizens of Nanking. Tell them to apologize to the soldiers, airmen, sailors and civilians of Pearl Harbor. Tell them to apologize to every last one of the people they murdered to further the cause of the "Land of the Rising Sun".
Because no apology is forthcoming from us.
You started it, you got incinerated as a result. Tough shit.
Don't pick a fight with the biggest bastard you can find, then expect him to apologize to you when he kicks your teeth in.
Now, before any of you think that I have anything against you Japanese, let us make one thing clear: I don't. As a matter of fact, I think that you're a shining example of people learning from their mistakes.
You've become a strong, peaceful, proud and prosperous society and a good and true ally on top of it. It's sad that your leaders had to put you through so much pain and misery before you got there, but you're an example for others to follow nonetheless. Out of the ashes of your own mistakes, you built something worth looking up to, and you built it with hard work and dedication.
It would be truly wonderful if other nations currently treading in the footsteps of Tojo could've learned from your mistakes too, but apparently they're hell bent on repeating them.
They may pay the same price as you did.
And no, we won't be apologizing to them either.

The blast, which highlighted the effectiveness of makeshift bombs against the most powerful military in the world, was the second major attack against Marines in the Haditha area in the past three days. On Monday, six Marines were killed in the town, and a seventh was killed by a car bomb in nearby Hit.

Remember how impressed the NYT was by how "sophisticated" the terrorists are? The Reuters article was written by Michael Georgy. Do a Google search on him; his writings turn up in many left wing venues, including Michael("Minutemen")Moore's web site and NPR. The reality of this is that it is not targeted at the Military. The objective is strategic in nature. The MSM has already started beating the KIA count as it runs up to 2,000. The objective of the terrorists is to reach that number rather quickly in the next few weeks. Of course our media willingly plays right into their hands. As this is not about defeating a true enemy, only a make believe one that exists in President Bush’s mind. In a sense it is starting to look like Vietnam, with the MSM undermining the National Will and accomplices in the killing of our troops.

Why we Fight

To those who find their spirits flagging and their resolve wavering, and to anybody else who wish to be reminded of just exactly what kind of subhuman mongrels we're at war with, this is required viewing.

I'll take a moment to mention one of the koranimals' atrocities, one that doesn't get all that much mention and far too little considering just how truly demonic it was.

On September 3rd, 2004, the pedophile-worshipping savages deliberately murdered 344 civilians at a school, at least 172 of which were children.
I'll let that sink in for a moment. Also, knowing that what you're reading is just words, I'm hoping the picture above will jog your memory. Those of you who have children will know exactly why there can be no peace with any subhuman piece of filth caught even thinking about justifying that. I want to see them dead, I want to see their families dead, I want to see their friends dead and I want to see anybody ever caught not trying to kill them dead.
Put yourself in that man's shoes for a moment. Look at that murdered child for a second, and imagine that it is your own.
Because I guarantee you that if we don't stop fucking around playing at war, it most likely will be your child one day.
And what have we been doing in response to this and numerous other attacks on civilization by those cave-dwelling cretins not worthy of walking on two legs?
Wringing our hands, searching blue-haired old grandmas to avoid the label of "profiling", endangering our soldiers' lives by forcing them to operate under ROEs that might as well have been written by al-Zarqawi, blasting anybody who's been caught as much as suggesting that maybe it's time to take the gloves off, and listening to Democrat blowhards defending the pigs responsible for actions like these, expressing outrage at the "abuse" they're subjected to at Gitmo.
It's time for the Friends of the Terrorists™ to shut the fuck up before we find ourselves forced to shut them up for good. We can't afford their seditious, treasonous aid and comfort to our enemies anymore, because the price of sitting idly by while they continue to coddle the animals is portrayed in the picture above.

THE MORAL emptiness at the heart of the national Democratic Party organization was on sorry display July 22 when national Democratic Chairman Howard Dean spouted off not just with his usual inane insults, but with demonstrable lies.
Really, there are too many decent people in the country who call themselves Democrats for them to be represented in party leadership by a man as off the wall as Dr. Dean. The national committee members who keep him in power do a disservice to their party and to the country.
For months, Dr. Dean has been spewing an apocalyptic analysis of Republican rule, arguably insulting Christians, Southerners and even military personnel along the way. But he, like everybody, is at least entitled to his opinion -- no matter how half-baked.Forget his opinions for now: The worse problem arises when he doesn't come within even spitting distance of getting the facts right. Recently, Dr. Dean had the gall to blame President George Bush for the recent Supreme Court decision allowing a town in Connecticut to seize private homes not just for public use but for private development.
"The president and his right-wing Supreme Court think it is OK to have the government take your house if they feel like putting a hotel where your house is," Dr. Dean said. "We think that eminent domain does not belong in the private sector. It is for public use only."
How did he lie in that statement? Let us count the ways.
First, it's not the "president's" court: Mr. Bush has not yet appointed a single member of it. Second, it's hard to argue that it's a "right-wing" court: As numerous analysts noted when the court's term ended this year, the more conservative bloc of justices has not won a single close, major case in ages.
Third, it was not the conservative justices at all, but the liberals -- John Paul Stevens, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer -- who formed the heart of the majority decision in favor of the government's seizure of the homes. Conservatives William Rehnquist, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas dissented (along with moderate-conservative Sandra Day O'Connor) in favor of the private homeowners.
Fourth, it was the vast majority of congressional Republicans -- not Howard Dean's Democrats -- who responded to the court decision by voting to withhold federal funds from local entities that seize personal homes for commercial development. The vast majority of House Democrats, on the other hand, voted against withholding funds. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said she "would support that" Supreme Court decision, and even said that the high court's ruling was "almost as if God has spoken."
So here is the Democratic National Committee chairman blasting the president for justices he did not appoint, blasting conservative judges for the work of liberal judges, and blasting Republicans in general for a decision to which Republicans objected while his fellow Democrats supported it.
Actually, the liberal justices' decision against individual homeowners is Exhibit A for why President Bush is wise to appoint conservatives to all levels of the federal courts.
It is the liberals who ignore the Constitution in order to run roughshod over individual property rights. It is conservative jurists who try to stop them.

United States Senator “Chuck” Schumer’s broke his own stupidity record the other day following President Bush’s announcement of John Roberts nomination to the Supreme Court.
In a tag-team appearance with Senator Pat Leahy (D. Vt.), ranking minority member of the Judiciary Committee, Schumer confessed to the Nation that neither he, Leahy, nor the Democrat party for whom he spoke, understands a fundamental principle of American constitutionalism: separation of powers. Indeed, ever since Schumer confessed, his echo has been heard as Democrat functionaries (e.g., Kennedy, Biden, Durbin, Pelosi) have made the same confession that they, too, do not understand one of the three basic pillars upon which our Republic stands.
All of them, and for that matter most of the media, have been demanding that judicial nominee Roberts “answer questions.” That Roberts explain his position on abortion, that he reveal where he stands on affirmative action, that he disclose how he would rule on capital punishment, that he divulge his stand on eminent domain—that, in effect, he make known the platform on which he is running for a seat on the Supreme Court of the United States.

From the perspective of the Democrats, this is entirely understandable, even defensible—because they do not understand Separation of Powers, and thus the Constitution’s mandated role for a judge in the American system of government, believing instead that the judiciary is simply another political branch. The Democrats see judges—Warren, Brennan, Douglas, Blackmun, Stevens, Ginsburg—as legislators, promulgating from the bench their own social, economic, and even moral, programs, not interpreting the Constitution and laws passed by the politically accountable actual legislature, i.e., Congress.

John Roberts is not a candidate for the Nowhereville Town Council, where the voters would want to know (and would have a right to know) where he stands on building a new senior citizen center, or whether Walmart can open a superstore. He is not even running for a senate seat in Vermont, where voters have questions about dairy subsidies, or in New York, where Long Islanders want to know about shore erosion.

He is a nominee to a judgeship where his task is not to legislate (Article I of the Constitution), but rather to serve under Article III: “The judicial power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court . . . .” That “judicial power” is the power to interpret and apply the Constitution and laws promulgated not by judges, but by legislators.

It is bad enough that the Democrats don’t—or won’t—understand this, but apparently they’ve succeeded in selling their bogus view of American constitutionalism to the American people. Last Friday, the Associated Press reported that “Just over half of all Americans—and a solid majority of women—want to know John Roberts’ position on abortion . . . .” Not just the “pro-choice” side, but also those who oppose abortion.

The fact is that no one is entitled to know what John Roberts thinks about abortion—or gay marriage, capital punishment, gun control, self-incrimination, free speech, warrantless searches, compulsory process, the commerce clause—or the price of tea in China.

The Judiciary Committee and the full Senate are entitled to know from President Bush’s nominee for an Associate Justiceship on the Supreme Court of the United States basically one thing: what does John Roberts believe is the constitutional function of courts in general, and the Supreme Court in particular—and of the judges who sit on those courts.
Until the Republicans extricate themselves from the judges-as-legislators mindset the Democrats have engineered—and in the process educate the American people about Separation of Powers, as the doctrine applies to John Roberts—they are playing the Democrats’ game, and perhaps holding a losing hand.
When Chuckie was sworn in as a Senator he took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. He lied - either by intent or by stupidity. If he doesn't understand it, there is no way he can uphold and defend it. He's a pile of defecant.. America Returns to Space Flight

NASA’s Space Shuttle Return to Flight mission (STS-114) is under way. Space Shuttle Discovery lifted off Today from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Fla. at 10:39 a.m. EDT. “We know the folks on planet Earth are just feeling great right now,” said Discovery’s commander Eileen Collins from orbit. During their 12-day mission to the International Space Station, Collins and her six fellow astronauts will test new techniques and equipment designed to make Shuttles safer. They’ll also deliver supplies and make repairs to the Space Station after Discovery docks on Thursday. “I want you to think about what it takes to get millions of different parts from thousands of vendors across the country to work together to produce what you saw here today and to realize how chancy it is, how difficult it is, at what a primitive state of technology it still is,” said NASA Administrator Michael Griffin. “This team managed to do it, and I think a large debt of appreciation is due to them. They have worked as hard as any team in NASA history.” Discovery’s first launch attempt July 13 was postponed because of problems related to a liquid hydrogen low-level fuel sensor inside the external fuel tank. Hundreds of engineers across the country worked to analyze and understand the issue. The sensor system was repeatedly tested during today’s launch countdown, and it performed without a problem. The STS-114 Return to Flight mission is the first step in realizing America's Vision for Space Exploration, which calls for a stepping-stone strategy of human and robotic missions to achieve new exploration goals. The Shuttle will be used to complete assembly of the International Space Station. The Station remains a vital research platform for human endurance in space, a test bed for technologies and techniques that will enable the longer journeys to the moon, Mars and beyond.

Sen. Charles Schumer's questioning of Supreme Court nominee John Roberts was so hostile during Roberts' 2003 appellate court confirmation hearings that Sen. Orrin Hatch blasted his New York colleague for asking "dumbass questions."In a audioclip of the exchange unearthed Wednesday by ABC Radio host Sean Hannity, the normally mild-mannered Utah Republican complained:
"Some [of Schumer’s questions] I totally disagree with. Some I think are dumbass questions, between you and me."
"I am not kidding you," Hatch continued. "I mean, as much as I love and respect [Schumer], I just think that’s true."
Taken aback, the New York Democrat asked if Hatch would like to "revise and extend his remark" - i.e., offer a retraction for the congressional record.
But Hatch refused to back down, telling Schumer:
"No, I am going to keep it exactly the way it is. I mean, I hate to say it. I mean, I feel badly saying it between you and me. But I do know dumbass questions when I see dumbass questions."

Sergio DeMillo was murdered in Iraq, a brave man, a distinguished international diplmat, immensely respected for his work in the United Nations, when al Qaeda gloated about that, they referred specifically to the role that DeMillo had carried out in East Timor because he was the United Nations adminsitrator in East Timor. Now I don't know the minds of the terrorist. By definition you can't put yourself in the mind of a successful suicide bomber. I can only look at objective facts. And the objective facts are as I have cited. The objective fact is that Australia was a terrorist target long before the operation in Iraq and indeed all the evidence as distinct from the suppositions suggest to me that this is about hatred of a way of life, this is about the perverted use of the principles of a great world religion, that at its root preaches peace and cooperation, and I think we lose sight of the challenge we have if we allow ourselves to see these attacks in the context of particular circumstances rather than the abuse through a perverted ideology of people and their murder."

This is I suppose, only tangentially of interest to the various readers of this blog (both of you.), but Canadian-born actor James Doohan, best known for having portrayed Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott in the original Star Trek television series and several subsequent films, died this morning at the age of 85.
There was more to "Scotty" than met the eye, As this Star Trek website notes:

Lots of people assume Jimmy Doohan is Scottish, but he's only got a small amount of Scottish blood in him — he's actually more Irish. He was conceived in Ireland, but his parents decided to get out of Belfast because conditions for Catholics there were deteriorating. They picked Canada, landed in Halifax on New Year's Day in 1920, and took a train 5,400 miles to British Columbia. James was born March 3, 1920, in Vancouver. The family (Jimmy was the youngest of four) eventually relocated to Sarnia, Ontario, where Jimmy endured a difficult childhood with a father who failed to leave his drinking behind in the old country.
It was largely for that reason that Jimmy "escaped" from his life by signing up for the Royal Canadian Artillery, once the country joined the war effort in 1939. Posted in England, he served throughout the duration of the war, becoming an officer and rising through the ranks, but without seeing actual combat until June 6, 1944 — D-Day — where he led a regiment of 33 men onto Juno Beach at Normandy, France.
You may have never noticed, watching the Original Series and the movies, that Mr. Scott has a physical handicap — he's missing the middle finger of his right hand. That's because the actor kept it very well hidden. (Watch the shows again carefully — Scotty is almost always clenching his right hand, or hiding it behind a console — but if you know to look, the missing digit is occasionally apparent.) That injury occurred on D-Day. Lt. Doohan successfully led his Canadian troop onto the beach and pushed inland to establish the best possible gun position (along the way Doohan shot two German snipers, never knowing whether he killed them). A field was secured and command posts were established, but not all Germans between the beach and their position had been captured. That night about 11:30, Doohan and another officer were walking between command posts when machine gun fire broke out. Doohan was hit; he fell into a shell hole, looked at his hand and saw blood. Three bullets struck the one finger. Never losing consciousness, he actually walked to the regimental aid post, unaware he also took four bullets in the leg.
There was an eighth bullet, and it was nothing less than a miracle that he's still with us today. It hit his chest, four inches from his heart. But it ricocheted off the sterling silver cigarette case in his pocket, the one his brother had given him for being best man at his wedding. It's like a trite plot twist, he acknowledges — his brother saved his life from thousands of miles away. Jimmy pushed the dent out of the cigarette case and continued using it until he quit smoking years later. He stayed in the military, learned to fly and came to be known as the "craziest pilot in the Canadian Air Forces."

Stupid Republican Tricks

I'm coming to this a little late, but let me assume the Editorial Voice position and offically label Representative Tom Tancredo's (R, CO) ill-considered response to the question, "How should the US respond to a nuke attack by terrorists on US soil?" as dumb, dumb, dumb. His response? Essentially, "Bomb Mecca."
Hey, there's a reason I don't run for office and get myself on radio or television. I'll say something stupid.
Like Tancredo did. There is, of course, a hallelujah chorus out there for that sentiment. I've got friends who occasionally every now and then suggest that the cure for the Islamofacsist cancer is glassy craters.
That is not my position. I'm all for a properly targeted response, which can include invasion. I'm not for tossing nukes in retaliatory strikes against an attack of that nature, by that type of opponent. I should note, Tancredo didn't say that either, he said 'bomb', not 'nuke'.
Put me in Hugh Hewitt's camp on this one. Or Don Sensing's.
Representative Tancredo should publicly repudiate the remarks. I reject them as ill-advised, counter-productive, and just plain wrong. Not to mention a de jure and de facto war crime, if carried out. Targeting religious and cultural landmarks *because* they are religious and cultural landmarks is a violation of the Conventions. Bear in mind - destroying them incident to operations isn't necessarily a crime, nor is destroying them in self-defense - but targeting them *because* of their status is a crime. It's also just a dumb thing to do, that will do little more than inflame the passion of the faithful. It won't cow them.
Just as flattening The Mall in Washington, D.C., wouldn't cow us. It would just piss us off. Even those on either side of the political spectrum who seemingly wouldn't mind Congress or the White House being vaporized because of their antipathy for the current resident would be pissed off. Yes, yes, there *are* those who would counsel surrender in that regard, but they would swamped by the legions of the *really angry*.
I say that even if I do understand the motivation of Representative Tancredo. But, as I said, there's a reason I don't do radio or TV. Well, that and the fact I've never been asked... but I wouldn't if I was. It's just real easy to say that when you haven't been asked.
As for Representative Tancredo - he took the job, he should learn how to talk on the fly.
And if he means what he said - perhaps he should be out of a job next election cycle. But that's a decision for his constituency to make.

Profile in Cowardice

During a party on Chappaquiddick Island on July 18, 1969, Senator Kennedy drove his 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 off Dike Bridge (also spelled Dyke Bridge), a wooden bridge that is angled obliquely to an unlit road onto which he claimed to have made a wrong turn. The car plunged into tide-swept Poucha Pond (at that location a channel) and landed upside down under the water. There is speculation about whether Mary Jo Kopechne drowned or suffocated. Kennedy returned on foot to the Lawrence Cottage where a party was in progress. Two other men, his cousin Joseph Gargan and party co-host Paul Markham then assisted him in trying to reach rescue Kopechne. All involved failed to use the telephone at the Lawrence Cottage to call the police for help. Kennedy discussed the accident with several people, including his lawyer, before he was contacted by the police. The next morning July 19, 1969 Police Chief Dominick Arena called the Senator from the closest house to the Dike Bridge rented at the time by the Malms. Senator Kennedy was given the news that his mother's car had been involved in a fatal accident. Kennedy had never reported the accident, a science teacher and 15 year old boy fishing discovered Kennedy's car the morning where the incident occurred. Kopechne's body was discovered by diver John Farrar. John Farrar observed that a large amout of air was released from the car when it was righted in the water, he also noted that the trunk when opened was remarkably dry. These observations and others lead many to believe that Mary Jo Kopechne had not drowned but suffocated in an air pocket within the Delmont 88. The diver John Farrar has stated that he was on call and available at the time of the accident.
The incident quickly blossomed into a scandal. Kennedy was criticized for failing to come to Kopechne's aid, for failing to summon help, for contacting not the police but his lawyer first, and for not reporting the accident to authorities. Due to a lack of evidence other than Kennedy's own word, allegations persist that he was drunk, that he did not try to save Kopechne, and that he intentionally turned onto the road crossing the bridge going to the beach in order to have sex with her. Mary Jo Kopechne and the other "boiler room" girls had been at that beach on the other side of the Dike Bridge earlier in the day.
The Senator was married to Joan Bennett Kennedy at the time who was pregnant but would later miscarry. Kennedy pled guilty to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury. He received a sentence of two months in jail, which was suspended. An Edgartown grand jury later reopened the investigation but did not return an indictment.
The accident has haunted his reputation and has hampered his political career through the decades since it transpired he withdrew in 1974 from the presidential race for 1976 and failed in a 1980 primary challenge to Jimmy Carter.
Kennedy's political opponents question whether justice was served in this case. Rumors still circulate of a conspiracy by Kennedy and his family to alter his driving record to obviate charges of negligent homicide, and to influence the Edgartown grand jury. Some people question his description of his escape from the car, because of his back troubles remaining from his 1964 airplane accident. Though claiming to be injured Kennedy, swam a second larger body of water after the accident to return to his hotel room as the ferry was closed for the night.
The Joyce Carol Oates novel Black Water is a fictionalized account of the events at Chappaquiddick. Set in the early 1990's, it chronicles the story of a twenty-six-year-old woman named Kelly Kellher who meets a character called "The Senator" at a Fourth of July party, leading to her inevitable and tragic demise.

When Foreheads Attack

Young leftists this week flocked to the nation's capital to hear, among other things, left wing television pundit and Democrat political strategist Paul Begala (A.K.A. "the Forehead") accuse Republicans of wanting to kill him and his children to preserve tax cuts for the rich.
Begala was featured at the first-ever Campus Progress National Student Conference, which was designed to provide campus moonbats with the tools necessary to fight the conservative movement. The event also drew former President Bill Clinton, for whom Begala once worked as an advisor.
A panel discussion entitled "Winning the War of Ideas" centered on topics discussed in the book "What's the Matter with Kansas" by Thomas Frank and detailed the challenges that Democrats face in persuading voters in the American heartland and elsewhere to embrace their agenda and support their candidates.
Begala's presence on the panel created a stir when he declared that Republicans had "done a p***-poor job of defending" the U.S.
Republicans, he said, "want to kill us.
"I was driving past the Pentagon when that plane hit" on Sept. 11, 2001. "I had friends on that plane; this is deadly serious to me," Begala said.
"They want to kill me and my children if they can. But if they just kill me and not my children, they want my children to be comforted -- that while they didn't protect me because they cut my taxes, my children won't have to pay any money on the money they inherit," Begala said. "That is bulls*** national defense, and we should say that."
The Clinton administration's national security efforts involved the right blend of "experience" and "strength," Begala said, an assertion with which the 9/11 Commission apparently disagreed.
In its report, the bipartisan commission stated that "each president considered or authorized covert actions, a process that consumed considerable time - especially in the Clinton administration - and achieved little success beyond the collection of intelligence."
Begala also included Republican domestic policies in his sweeping criticism. The GOP, he said, "ain't had a new idea since they opposed Social Security, and guess what, they still do. ... They are beginning to figure out that there is no Soviet Union, but they still want Star Wars to stop it," Begala said.
"Okay, they are utterly and completely brain-dead," echoing comments earlier this year by Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, who accused Republicans of being "brain dead."
Frank insisted that Republicans are not quite as tough on national security as many Americans think.
"Franklin Roosevelt got us in World War II. They dragged the Republicans kicking and screaming. They didn't want to get in that war. They didn't have any problem with Hitler. I won't go so far as to say they thought Hitler rocked. But there were people in America who did, and they didn't want us to get in that war. Democrats have always been just as tough as Republicans once they're in office," Frank said.
Frank did not mention one of the most vocal opponents of U.S. intervention in World War II: Democrat Joseph P. Kennedy, who was one of Roosevelt's top fundraisers, the U.S. ambassador to Great Britain and father of John F. Kennedy, who would later become America's 35th president.
Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., the eldest of the ambassador's sons, wrote his father with his own observations of the global conflict. Hitler's "dislike of the Jews ... was well-founded," the younger Kennedy explained in his letter.
"In every revolution, you have to expect some bloodshed. Hitler is building a spirit in his men that could be envied in this country," wrote Kennedy, Jr., expressing an opinion his father shared.
"I was very pleased and gratified at your observations of the German situation, and I think your conclusions are very sound," the elder Kennedy replied to his son.
Frank defended his point, however, claiming that Republicans didn't see Hitler as a threat to America until Pearl Harbor.
He repeated the Democratic criticism of America's invasion of Iraq. Saddam Hussein "was a horrible (sic), a dictator, a butcher, a tyrant, a mass murderer - as evil as they come," Frank said, but he added: "I don't think he was a threat to the U.S. at the time."
Former Clinton administration Chief of Staff John Podesta told the students that "you can fight hard for what you believe without breaking the law, without cheating and certainly without checking your morals at the door."

THE MORE that is revealed about the leaking of CIA employee Valerie Plame's name, the more her husband, former ambassador Joe Wilson, is discredited.
For the past two years Wilson has suggested that the White House exposed his wife as a CIA agent in retribution for his having "debunked" President Bush's statement, made in his 2003 State of the Union address, that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Niger. Left-wing activists have trumpeted this charge until it has echoed from every mountain and hilltop in the land. Last week's revelations in the case show the charge to be entirely unfounded.
Time magazine reporter Matt Cooper's now famous e-mail exchange with Karl Rove, President Bush's top political strategist, shows that Cooper initiated the contact with Rove, not the other way around, and that Rove did not reveal Plame's name. The New York Times reported on Friday that, contrary to Wilson's spin, Rove did not contact columnist Bob Novak to divulge Plame's name. Novak called Rove, and it was Novak who told Rove that Plame recommended her husband for the Niger trip. Rove simply responded that he'd heard the same thing.
This is important because Wilson claimed to have been sent to Niger by Vice President Dick Cheney, and that his wife had nothing to do with his selection. Both claims were later proven untrue.
The icing on the cake was Wilson's own admission, made Thursday, that "My wife was not a clandestine officer the day that Bob Novak blew her identity."
So not only was Karl Rove not calling reporters to disclose the identity of Plame, whose name he did not then know, she was not even a covert agent at the time, as has been incessantly claimed.
That the sources for these revelations were Time magazine, The New York Times and Joe Wilson himself will, of course, have no effect on the moonbats who peddle Karl Rove conspiracy theories. But then, those who believe in a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy were never heavily influenced by the facts or reality anyway.

What a surprise - the Chimp Executive Oaficer can't get his oversized head (or his undersized brain) around why it is that Muslims, who we all know are usually a peace-loving people, would actually lash out at the flocks of lilly-white Aryan sheep in the US and UK. How's this for an explanation: We're attacking them! What else can they do in the face of this regime's oppressive policies?
The whole f**king world hates us because the neocons pulling the strings of the BushCo hegemonistration decided that a good response to the events of 9/11 would be to bomb the shit out of any country that has substantial oil reserves, resists converting to their perverted fundamentalist version of Christianity, or pissed off one of their family members in the past. So they just pissed away all the goodwill and sympathy this country enjoyed on September 12, 2001. Way to go, tards.
All right, so maybe the purple-fingered zombies who voted in the rigged election in Iraq say they like us, but what else are they going to say? How honest would you be if some right-wing BushCo mouthpiece from Fox News shoved an electronic phallic symbol in your face, screaming questions at you while a trigger-happy American jarhead was standing just a few feet away with a loaded weapon?
And what about President Lame-Brain's domestic policies? Well, let's see - we have the so-called "Patriot" Act (talk about an Orwellian name - do you even know Orwell's work? Have you even seen 1984?), freedom of speech is now verboten. How else do you explain the the fact that Air America is having trouble getting sponsors?
Who said "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism"? Was it Orwell? I don't remember hearing that line, but it sounds like something right out of one of his screenplays. But here in Jesusland, dissent isn't allowed, so we're basically being deprived of our right to express our patriotism. And no, I'm not talking about phony, flag-waving "Oh this is the greatest country on earth" patriotism, I'm talking about hard-core dissent. I'm talking about letting people know just how much this country really sucks. Now that's patriotic.
So why can't you people see the solution? We just wait till we're attacked again - and you know we will be, the way we're pissing people off. But this time we don't do anything in retaliation. We just sit back and enjoy the goodwill. Then the real patriots launch a massive, coordinated show of patriotism by sticking it to the crooks in the White House as loudly and as often as possible. No holds barred, man - the stolen election, the ties to corporate criminals, the inescapable similarities to Hitler - we let it all hang out.
Think about it: Every country in the world will be standing in solidarity with us, one of the most patriotic - truly patriotic - and peaceful countries in the entire world.
With ideas like this, I should be the freaking president. Dream on, wingnuts.

Bitchslapped!

On MSNBC's Connected: Coast to Coast, Christopher Hitchens from Vanity Fair was involved in a complete verbal dismemberment of Ron Reagan. Reagan, like all the other feel first, hate Bush second, think last lefties, is so intent on re-writing history to make the case that the war in Iraq was illegitimate, got boxed around the ears by Hitchens. Here's the exchange:
RR: Christopher, I'm not sure that I buy the idea that these attacks are a sign that we're actually winning the war on terror. I mean, how many more victories like this do we really want to endure?
CH: Well, it depends on how you think it started, sir. I mean, these movements had taken over Afghanistan, had very nearly taken over Algeria, in a extremely bloody war which actually was eventually won by Algerian society. They had sent death squads to try and kill my friend Salman Rushdie, for the offense of writing a novel in England. They had sent death squads to Austria and Germany, the Iranians had, for example, to try and kill Kurdish Muslim leaders there. If you make the mistake that I thought I heard you making just before we came on the air, of attributing rationality or a motive to this, and to say that it's about anything but itself, you make a great mistake, and you end up where you ended up, saying that the cause of terrorism is fighting against it, the root cause, I mean. Now, you even said, extraordinarily to me, that there was no terrorist problem in Iraq before 2003. Do you know nothing about the subject at all? Do you wonder how Mr. Zarqawi got there under the rule of Saddam Hussein? Have you ever heard of Abu Nidal?
RR: Well, I'm following the lead of the 9/11 Commission, which...
CH: Have you ever heard of Abu Nidal, the most wanted man in the world, who was sheltered in Baghdad? The man who pushed Leon Klinghoffer off the boat, was sheltered by Saddam Hussein. The man who blew up the World Trade Center in 1993 was sheltered by Saddam Hussein, and you have the nerve to say that terrorism is caused by resisting it? And by deposing governments that endorse it?
RR: No, actually, I didn't say that, Christopher.
CH: At this stage, after what happened in London yesterday?
RR: What I did say, though, was that Iraq was not a center of terrorism before we went in there, but it might be now.
CH: How can you know so little about...
RR: You can make the claim that you just made about any other country in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia.
CH: Absolutely nonsense.
RR: So do you think we ought to invade Saudi Arabia, where most of the hijackers from 9/11 came from, following your logic, Christopher?
CH: Uh, no. Excuse me. The hijackers may have been Saudi and Yemeni, but they were not envoys of the Saudi Arabian government, even when you said the worst...
RR: Zarqawi is not an envoy of Saddam Hussein, either.
CH: Excuse me. When I went to interview Abu Nidal, then the most wanted terrorist in the world, in Baghdad, he was operating out of an Iraqi government office. He was an arm of the Iraqi State, while being the most wanted man in the world. The same is true of the shelter and safe house offered by the Iraqi government, to the murderers of Leon Klinghoffer, and to Mr. Yassin, who mixed the chemicals for the World Trade Center bombing in 1993. How can you know so little about this, and be occupying a chair at the time that you do?
RR: I guess because I listen to the 9/11 Commission, and read their report, and they said that Saddam Hussein was not exporting terror. I suppose that's how, Christopher.
CH: Well, then they were wrong, weren't they?
RR: No, maybe they just needed to listen to you, Christopher.
CH; Well, I'm not sure that they actually did say that. What they did say was they didn't know of any actual operational connection...
RR: That's right. No substantive operational connection.
CH: ...which was the Iraqi Baath Party and...excuse me...and Al Qaeda. A direct operational connection. Now, that's because they don't know. They don't say there isn't one. They say they couldn't find one. But I just gave you the number, I would have thought, rather suggestive examples.

Hitchens may be wrong on a lot of issues, but he understands the nature of the people we're fighting, and what is necessary to defeat them. We stand with Britain

I don't suppose that anybody's still unawares that our British Cousins got hit by one of the cowardly, barbaric attacks for which the camel humping Assholes for Allah™ have become justly infamous.
It goes without saying that we Americans stand with Britain in their time of need as they stood with us in our time of need. No conditions, no "why do they hate us", no excuses, no restraint, no forgiveness and no forgetting.
Our prayers go out to those injured as well as those who've lost loved ones in this brutal attack. Your suffering will not be forgotten and your losses will not remain unavenged.
We also know that if the Islamofascist needledicks were planning a second Spain with this murder of the innocent, they'll find themselves sorely mistaken.
Again, as was the case when they decided to attack us, the sand lice failed to open a history book before laying their plans. Look at the Blitz, look at decades of IRA terror, then look at the reaction of the British people.
Did they falter? Did they recoil in horror and seek an easy way out?
No, they did not. They straightened up, kept a stiff upper lip and redoubled their efforts in order to ensure victory, and victory is what they achieved.
This will be no different, and if the despicable worshippers of the pedophile prophet think that it will, they'll die with a very surprised expression on their simian faces.
May their death come soon, and may it be brutal, massive and without mercy, for those who show no mercy deserve none in return.
Nuke Mecca and let their heathen god sort them out.

Still, every once in a while, I'll run across something that really gets my blood boiling. For instance, after my last opinion piece I got this nastygram from some choad over in Great Satanland:

Oh, ya think? Well, I got news for you, Moby: I'm not exactly thrilled about any such comparison MYSELF, okay? See, I did'nt spend the last ten years crawling in the sand at jihad training camp, getting my knuckles thwacked by an Imam every time I forgot a Quran verse, and living in smelly Baghdad safehouse just to get compared to a bunch of trucker-hat AltWeekly motards from Austin and Seattle.
Me, like the American Left? I mean, are you fucking joking me?
As. Fucking. If.
Oh sure, the infidel progressives like to talk a good game. They'll call you "freedom fighters" and "the resistance" and "Iraqi Minutemen." But soon as you need some volunteers to take out a grade school full of collaborators, they're like, "sorry dude, I've got to run off some International ANSWER fliers at Kinkos."
Next, when you string up some smoldering infidel carcasses from a Fallujah bridge, they're all like, "fuck yeah, screw those mercenaries! High five, man! C'mon, man, don't leave me hangin' bro!" And please, don't even get me started about the armchair quarterbacking. Whine and bitch and threaten to "shut their fucking mouths while I'm pummelling them"and "..me & my brick in a dark alley" and "sharpen your knives" and "just punch the stupid fucker out" and "they'll consider the possibility of getting a shot in the teeth," yada yada yada. Hel-loooo people: how do you expect anybody to take an anti-war movement seriously if its all 'jibba-jabba' and no 'chop-chop'?
Man, I just don't get it. There are lots of other American groups who are joining us against Bush's crusade, like David Duke and Fred Phelps and Stormfront. But who do I get automatically lumped in with? East Village Rage Against My Allowance fuckwits in Fred Perry tracksuits who can't figure out the controls on an iPod, let alone an international revolution.
It's not fair, and I swear to Allah the next time somebody tries to link the jihad with these infidel dipshits, I am totally going to snap. And the next time one of you chicken martyrs puts on a keffiya and starts babbling about "solidarity with the resistance," remember this: just because we are planning to kill you last doesn't make you our buddy.

My New Toy

This is the latest addition to the Arsenal. It's a Ruger GP-100 .357 Magnum. I took this pic right after putting 200 rounds through it, so it was dirty at the time I snapped this. I already have a Smith & Wesson model 19 in the same caliber. But I have to say the ruger surpasses the S&W in all ways but two.

1. The GP-100 is way too big and heavy to be a carry gun. (But that's okay, I wanted a plinker and a capable tool to help defend the homestead if need be.)
2. The Smith has a trigger that breaks at a crisp 1.5 lb in single action, the GP is about 3lbs. or so in single action. (a bit of gunsmithing can remedy that!)

Did I mention that this sucker is heavy? The weight is actually an asset when target shooting, as it greatly reduces the felt recoil. I was firing full power .357 mag loads and hitting the target 40 yards out one handed! I could never do that with the lighter Smith.
